Hey guys i am new here, and new to the hobby as well, just got back from the army and finally have some time to explore the hobby, so i have 6 loaches in a 50 gallon, i know i know, the tank is small, but so is my hobby at the moment, and i am planning on buying a 180-200 gallon tank for my living room when the loaches get big, so at this point i am just focusing on keeping them ALIVE, haha, one of my tiger barb just died...after 2 weeks, they are in the same tank as the loaches...there is now 3 tigers, but anyway, i just want to say the loaches are really cool, they are so funny, eat like a champ, play well with other fish, and when they swim as a group they look fantastic, and its nice to know other people that loves loaches. tips and comments if you can spare any. keep in mind i am a complete newbie!

Sounds like maybe clowns? I have several species of loaches, they're my favorite family of fish.
The botia types like some fast water movement to play in & the more hiding places you have the more secure they'll feel. They often rest on their sides or upside down.
It's good you have 6, they like friends even if they fight a bit. No harm done but they may "gray out" when overly excited.
Mine eat everything, flakes, pellets, wafers but especially love thawed frozen bloodworms & brine shrimp, only a few times a week though. They also eat veggies, romaine lettuce & zucchini are favorites here, just weight them down with a spoon through it or veggie clip. Mine like raw but be sure to remove any leftovers 12-24 hours later.
THE website for all things loachy is http://www.loaches.com/
Watch them for any signs of "skinny disease", chronic wasting.
