My Jack is back!!!

I'm so excited because my Dempsey who had been sulking in the corner for the past week appears to be back to normal. Don't know if it was the time change or what. I finally got him to eat by literally reaching my hand to the back of the 55g tank he's in and poking him in the mouth with food. He grabbed it (and my fingers at times) out of defense more than anything and it got him eating again. I should mention that this is not a fun method to feed a large sized fish. They bite harder than you think. Anyway, he seems to be back to normal. I tossed the food in at the top of the tank and he was coming clear out of the water almost to get it.

Glad to hear your JD is done pouting. But it wasn't necessary to hand feed your JD like that. Fish can go weeks to months without eating.

I was worried about him. I let him sit there for a week like that. Didn't want him to slowly starve himself to death. Besides, I think I look better with 9 fingers.

My jack didnt eat for aweek or so ,i dropped frozen krill by him and he grabbed it. I think he just wanted to kill whatever it was but then it tasted good...

My Jack Dempsey goes nuts for freeze-dried shrimp. As soon as he sees me grab the container her darts to the front of the tank and begs for them. He doesn't do this at all when I grab the bag of Hikari Cichlid Gold.

:cool: A bit of variety will keep him from getting bored & pouting. Trust me he would never intensionally starve himself to death. Just like you or I, fish need a change somtimes. They'll always have their favorites but you can 'convince' them to eat a healthy, balanced diet. They're not quite as willful as Oscars but can be stubborn. Just stick to your plan and it will keep you from runnin' out of fingers! :lol: "T"
