Hi everyone,

I currently have a 29 gallon tank with 5 tiger barbs. I am looking into what to put in with them. I have considered maybe putting 5 green tiger barbs in gradually, but am curious about what other kinds of fish I could keep with them in a 29 gallon. Thanks!

I have 3 Tiger Barbs. (I've had Green Barbs with no luck). I have 2 Angels, some neons, a Tri Color Shark, an Aquatic Frog and a Red eye Tetra. The Tiger Barbs seem to only chase each other.

I was wondering the same thing about Tiger Barbs. Are they generally pretty good if you have like 4 or 5 of them? I was thinking about a tank with (all possibilities nothing for sure) cardinal tetras, dwarf gouramies, a betta, kuhli loaches, ottos. I am especially scared about tiger barbs with a betta because of its long fins. None of these are for sure though.

I know kuhli loaches should be fine. As to Hook's other choices of fish. i wouldn't mix dwarf gouramis and bettas, they might fight each other. I also wouldn't trust Tiger barbs with either a betta or cardinal tetras, both just swim too slowly.

I've found Tiger Barbs do best in groups of their own kind. Tankmates I've had luck with include, semi-aggressive tetras (Buenos Aires, Red Eye and such) any kind of loach, plecos are normally safe. I generally try to keep tankmates that are almost the same size or larger which cuts down on the infighting. Green Tiger Barbs do very well with normal tiger barbs, but they should be about the same size as the current tigers before you add them, or they may get beaten up.

I've had great luck combining tigers with animals they might encounter in the wild which are also a little nippy or semi-aggresive.

How about a pl*co?

There are many that don't get over 6-7" and come in all different designs and colors.
