yes thats right we are crazy but we gots pets :headbang2:

 we as a family think it rocks :headbang2:

my wife an i decided that in lieu of a social life we would make our house a place where animals were and are our social life

just this week i got brilo THE FUZZINATOR aka fuzz fuzz a brilo guinea pig and last night i was able to pick up two more guinea pigs for free

tonight we go to get one i have wanted for a long time a ferret his owner is moving to korea and is basically giving him to us cage an all for $50

i will make sure to post pics of our animals in days to come and since we have 7 kids making sure that they get attention is an easy gig also making sure that they are fed an cleaned up after is easy as well

my girls agreed to be the cleaners before they knew what was involved

well im out gotta get my ferret will post pics on this later

i was thinking the other day about one thing

and this thought came to me people probably think im nuts about buying all these pets cause i forgot to mention one detail of what im actually doing in the area of pets im actually headed towards a pet store of sorts with a main focus on fish breeding and keeping but as a side note to that other pets as well

for example

i just sold this guy for a healthy profit

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn352/chefjamesscott/the%20zoo%20pets/DSC05128.jpg

and these two i was able to rehome to a nice family for a good exchange

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn352/chefjamesscott/the%20zoo%20pets/DSC04945.jpg

just wanted to clarify that point so that people could see the method behind my apparent madness

though for sure some i have gotten for myself an my family like dan the quail he rocks

Cool! We are a zoo family too! I should have gotten degus when I lived in Massachusetts. They were abundant out there but very hard to find in Colorado. I've always wanted button quail too, but we are waiting until we get our land and build a barn so that I can have a flock of them.

Currently, we have two dogs (a greyhoundand and a mini dachshund), two kittens (found in our yard), two rabbits, two chinchillas, two blue rats, two baby box turtles, two white doves, a mouse, four roborovski hamsters, a plethora of sea monkeys and their snail friends, 3 doodlebugs, three scorpions (soon to be six since I'm buying 3 more for hubby for Christmas), a praying mantis, a zebra tarantula, a leopard gecko, 10 hermit crabs, and four land snails. Oh-and a betta named Ghost who lives at my office. Everyone but the scorpions, box turtles and hermit crabs were rescues. We love our menagerie even though people think we're weird.

Just as a an aside--chefjamesscott--you should try out putting some climbing vines or cholla logs in with your hermies. You wouldn't believe how much they like to climb! Mine have been much more active since I did that. You can use silk plants from the craft store or the ones that they sell for reptiles. The cholla logs are good too because they like to much on them as a treat. They also sell this climbing background stuff at the petstore that attaches to the back of a 10 gallon aquarium--they'll climb all over like little monkies!!! They also really appreciate deep substrate so that they can bury themselves to molt, and sea salt water in a separate dish--they store it in their shell and it helps them to molt. For the sea salt, the cheap stuff that they sell for salt water aquariums is perfect. You don't have to worry about mixing it perfectly either because they'll take fresh water and mix it to the salinity that they like! They are really fascinating creatures!

Your collection is VERY cool! Thanks for posting about them!

The ACF will probably eat the fish.

I want to do something like this one day. On a smaller scale, but only because of the other time consuming stuff I want to do. Congrats on the new buddies!

there are those on ac that will hate me for this but FISH EAT FISH :eek3::eek3:
and im sure my acf eats fish in the wild how big will he get

some of my things im doing with aquaria entail the smaller fish becoming dinner

for example my guppy tank is right beside my gar tank for obvious reasons fresh fish for dinner eat them up yummm>>>):> but guess that might be lost on those who dont know the song fish heads fish heads

well we have been able to rehome all of our degus and our 3 chinchillas i opted to rehome 4 ferrets as they are a lot more fun for my kids and as i was looking at one of my tables the other night before christmas i thought dang that would make a good cage

so christmas eve i took some broken down pallet wood and 25 bucks worth of offcut wood and made this

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn352/chefjamesscott/the%20zoo%20pets/DSC05383.jpg

to me its much better than this

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn352/chefjamesscott/the%20zoo%20pets/DSC05289.jpg

there is an opening in the bottom of the front an an opening on each side i still have to get some landscape tyes and make a base for it but im gonna make a tunnel system that leads to another cage im gonna make for them on both sides of the central cage so that they can have fun goin from place to place i think ill use their little cages as the destination on both sides should have the big cage done in 2 weeks our four ferrets are sugar, buddy, syd and nemo
