Anyone here breed Kuhlis?

Did you do it on purpose or by accident?

What kind of environmental conditions did you need?

I am not really looking to breed them, but I have 1 that is huge. Like...confused for a baby eel huge, and it looks like there is a green tinge to its belly. Is this a sign of eggs or is it just fat or is it sick?!!

Sorry I cant get you pictures, the dang thing wont stay in view for longer than a few seconds, and my camera sucks

Water params are 0,0,0
Tank is moderately planted, fully cycled, gets about 20-25% water change every week, and there are 3 or 4 kuhlis (not sure exactly how many, will be getting more soon) and some zebra loaches, along with Gary, my albino bn pleco.

Thoughts?

Ohhh, also they get tetramin tropical fish formula both flake and pellet, and a nice fat zucchini chunk every other day (gary eats most of it, the pig...)

I haven't bred them but my females are usually fat with greenish eggs. There's an account of baby kuhlis at loaches.com, black pangios as I recall, bred accidentally.

With the other fish you have it's likely any eggs would be eaten, you never know though.

Yeah, kuhlis are one of those fish that are often gravid, but rarely bred. Most of the ones that've bred in captivity were discovered under under gravel filters.

I've had them breed and lay eggs. What happens is when the female is huge and ready to lay eggs, she finds a male, swims with him in the top of the aquarium, and then she squirts out eggs as the male fertilizes them. I've had this happen twice and both times, Zebra Danios ate the eggs as they floated down to the ground.

Ive got zebra loaches and a pleco, think they will eat the eggs?
and did you do anything special to induce spawning or did it just happen?

^ Not really. I noticed that the female was green with eggs and one morning, I saw them mating.
