This is my first try at a planted tank. I am not happy with the anachris, I was originally going to have driftwood with the anacharis growing up behind it but the wood got slimey and I took it out. I have one guppy in there now working on cycling the tank. Parameters Ammonia .25, Nitrites .25, and Nitrates 5.0

The anacharis will need some ferts. The watered down cheap stuff you can find at Petco and Petsmart should be fine. What kind of lighting do you have?

Anancharis does not like to be planted in the substrate. Sometimes you can get it to root but usually it will die off. Better to float that stuff. Maybe replace it with something like ludwigia or hygro if your lighting is sufficient.

Good luck going planted. Here I go....
Yes, what kind and how much lighting do you have?
The grass looks like Blyxa Japonica..? If you haven't do some research, that could turn out to be a discouraging beginning plant.
edit:After looking some more, not Blyxa. Not too sure. Doesn't look too healthy though. :)
The lily will start to wither on you. It really is an emersed plant and doesn't do well submersed. Just a warning for when it starts to die.
Ditto for what gmh said.
The hygro is good. I would look in to getting some more. It's a fast growing plant that is very beneficial to the tank. Try trimming the tops of your hygro to promote more growth while your tank settles out.
Moss is always a winner. You said your driftwood started getting slimey. When you get that resolved attach the moss to that wood.
Here's a link for your moss: www.aquamoss.net

I don't know how much looking around you have done on the planted tank subject but here are a few resources to help you out.

I have kept anacharis in the past and I kept it planted in the substrate.I never had any problems doing this, but maybe I just got lucky.

It will look really nice when grown in! That guppy must be in heaven  (eww, that smiley is demeted)

And i have elodea, too. I got it on like tuesday and it has already rooted itself in the substrate, you should be fine :D

I have problems with anacharis too :S. It grows healthy and fine in the water just free floating, but melts/falls apart and dies when stuck into the substrate.
