Hi there, new here. :) i was given a 20 gal tank 2 weeks ago with a barb and a catfish 2 beautiful plants and tons or rocks. the girl who had it before never cleaned it and didnt clean the filtering. They thrived in their clean new water (didnt clean the tank or the filtering system so as not to stress them anymore). This morning, did a 30% water change, b/c all the rocks were super slimy and there was so much gunk in the tank.

All the algae settled back down, but when i put hte biomax media in the fitler the water b/c v cloudy, and now, the AC 150 is super super noisy and i dont knowhow to fix it. i spent about 3 hours working on making hte filter queter. i understand that the cloudiness will dissapate in week, but the NOISE??? Is thre a better filter that doesnt get so wacky if you clean it?

Take the intake tube off and on the bottom of the filter there should be a little black box that will twist off. Take that off and clean the impellar, the little part that goes around, IME noise comes from something being in or twisted around the impellar.

You can also check to see if there is an air bubble trapped in the upper part of the intake tube. If there is, put the tube all the way to the lowest stetting for a few minutes, then SLOWLY start moving it to the left. This should help clear out the air. If this doesn't work, clean the impellar as stated above. If that doesn't work, check to see if the little metal bar that holds the impellar is bent. If it is, you can get a replacement fairly cheap.
