I am looking to set up a 10 gallon planted tank with diy C02 and ferts. In a 10 gallon what can I grow with 1.8 watts per gallon with diy C02 and ferts? I was going to do a southeast asian biotope but decided against it because I don't have any idea where around I live to get some of those plants. Also, what kind of assortment of fish could I have? Can I get a dwarf cichlid or is that too much?

For a 10g tank you can get a pair of dwarf cichlids (like tiny apistos or blue rams)

With that light you can grow just about any low light plant + some that are in the medium lighting.. Its very hard to give a list since there are so many plants available.. visit www.plantgeek.net plant guide and you can get an idea of which plants you can grow. As far as getting plants send a pm to MGamer he might have some plants you are looking for.. plus he has some nice dwarf cichlids (apistos).

I totally forgot about plantgeek thanks bk. If I get a pair of apistos can I put anything else in with them, maybe like 2 ottos to keep algae in control?

I personally think 20 gal. minimum for dwarf cichlids but that's just me.

As for an SE asia "biotope" most of the plants available in the trade are actually from that area. You could go with java fer, java moss, cryptocorynes, anubias, etc. All low light plants that don't need Co2 or ferts to do well.

If you get the apistos mgamer has which remain on the small side then you would be able to get 1-2 ottos + a few tetras.

Heres another site which can give you a list of plants for the lighting you desire..

(though this site is a bit biased and goes more with med-high light plants)

Go with snails for algae control instead of fish.
