I have a Perfecto 55 setup, and the aquarium stand is a little funky IMO...

The whole aquarium rests on just 3 inches on either side (left and right, not front and back). Is this seriously safe, or is it an accident waiting to happen??

I want to add more rockwork to the aquarium before I get more Cichlids, but I'm having nightmares about this!! Granted, this tank's been set up for just under a year now, but still...

I searched google images to find a pic, but couldn't really find anything good-- here's the best pic I found, and it doesn't really show what I'm talking about- http://images.google.com/imgres?img...+55+cabinet&start=20&gbv=2&ndsp=20&hl=en&sa=N

You could add a Flat Level Board across the top?...just make sure the bottom glass isn't resting on anything... the framework of the tank is what needs the support.

There are lots of good plans online..try the DIY sections. Or if you would rather buy one, I bought a really nice sturdy one at my local Wal-Mart for around 80$. It is easy to assemble and looks nice.

Okay, well if the frame is ALL that needs to be supported, then I guess just the support on either side would be sufficient..? I personally like the fact that the stand that you have from Walmart is flat all across.

I searched and searched again, but could not find any good images of this Perfecto stand online...so I drew up a c.rappy top view of it on paint lol...

I have never seen one without side supports as well as the ends. It just doesn't seem to be right to me. Where did you get the stand? Can you go back to place of purchase and look at a display model for comparison?

IMO you are asking for trouble with no supports under ALL of the frame. May not be a disaster right away--but it will come.........:evil_lol:

I agree, it doens't seem very safe...

Well I'm glad I'm not just "crazy" thinking about this then...

I thought it was weird too when I first got the whole set-up, but I also picked one up for my mother-in-law, and it's the same thing.

I got it from That Fish Place That Pet Place...do you think just putting a thick piece of wood underneath it, fitting it perfectly, would be okay??

Thanks for everyone's help :-)

I wish you had some pics...I'd like to see that. Yes the tank should be supported on all 4 sides of the bottom frame. You could put some boards across to span the 4'. Is the stand deeper (front to back) than the tank or the same depth? Just wondering if you got a 75gal stand for a 55 gal tank.

No, it fits fine. It was actually sold all as a package when TFPTPP had their huge sale...got the 55, the stand, and hood for $299...but now that I'm paying attention to detail, I should've paid more and got a better one :-/
