Hey everyone. Im new around here but I really like this DIY forum. Im looking to buy a 1x55 watt bright kit for a 20 gall high tank from AHSupply. Pretty sure Im going to have to build my own hood for this. Has anyone built a hood for a 20g high with one of hese kits? I want to assemble my hood so it has a spot to mount the light as well as a frontal hatch that I can open to feed my fish etc. Also, want to have room in the back for my filter and other accessories. Thanks

Thats cool. Also, this may be a retarded question but how do I go about calculating the wpg for a 20 gallon high?

55 Watts / 20 Gallons =2.75 Watts per Gallon

55/20 = 2.75

so the dimensions of the tank dont really have an effect on the wpg measurement?

Somewhat. 2.75wpg on a 20L is slightly more than on a 20H, but the difference really is negligible. WPG is a general guide and good starting point but is over rated, IMO.

Here's a couple pics of my hood. This was on a 29 gallon, with a 2x55 watt AHSupply kit. I made my own plans, and just built it from mdf board, with a textured spray paint.
