Hi,
Not sure if this is the proper way to add a thread. I started one on Saturday about my tetras dying of ich. Two panda cories remained. Started salt treatment/raised heat. They seemed to be doing fine until yesterday. Today, they are both dead. No sign of ich. I guess stress from the salt/heat? Water parameters were good. (See previous thread.)
I'm bummed. I think I'll stick with my goldfish and snails tank. :( The little guys were so cute.

I would say it was the ICH, and ammount of salt you used. Catfish can handle salt, but large amounts can kill. When I got hit by ICH, I had loaches and Cories, and also used salt/medication/heat at the same time and had no deaths.

Tropical fish aren't hard to keep alive. But going goldfish/snails way, you gunna need big tanks to accomodate the goldfish size, and a lot more water changes.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I was following the dosage for the salt and quite honestly I was very conservative. Anyway...
Just to clear up the goldfish comment. I do have a 38 g coldwater tank. The cories and tetras were moved into the 10 g. after I moved the goldfish to the 38 g. Well, not right away, of course.
Perhaps I'll try again. For me, I go 100% for my pets..and it is hard when they don't make it...even the littlest fish.

I know how you feel I lost 2 red platy a few days ago, one danio just died and another doesn't look so good. I'm using the heat/salt method as well... If it doesn't work, I don't know what to do.

6.6g freshwater tank

Sorry about the losses.

Don't give up on the tropicals. We all experience deaths and as much as it sucks to lose them the best thing to do, in my opinion, is spend time planning out the new stocking of the tank. It takes your mind off of it and there's nothing more fun ;)

I have decided to take a little break. Perhaps work on planting my goldfish tank with real plants (so far, the plants in it have survived the goldfish). Keep the 10 g. as a sick tank for the goldfish. And, plan out a possible 20 gallon tank. More options to making it a planted tank...I'd like to do an Amazon theme or at least South American theme.
