Hey guys,

I bought these German blue ram's yesterday and I just wanted to be sure I do indeed have a male and a female. They are constantly around each other and sleep under the same rock, so I hope thats a positive sign.

Sorry about the bad pictures, all I have is my phone to take pictures right now.

Looks like a pair to me because one has the pink belly.

That's what the guy at Aquarium City was pointing out, just trying to make sure because apparently their exchange/return policy isn't very good.

It does look like you have a male and a female. However, a male plus a female does not necessarily equal a pair with rams. Hopefully yours are, if they are always hanging around each other that's a good sign.

I agree. They look healthy and have very nice colours good luck with breeding them.

You do have a male and a female, but not necessarily a pair. Rams tend to choose their mates. Just because you get both male and female doesn't mean they will "like" each other. Hopefully yours will!! Good luck!

About how soon will I know if they will pair up or not? Like I said, since they have been in the tank they have always been together. I haven't seen any chasing or anything either.

You can lead a horse to water.....Hehe. Except for some fish, like guppies and convicts, most fish spawn on their own terms and their own timeline. All you can do is give them the best care and conditions that will make them thrive. Unlike Bolivian rams, German Rams like it a little hotter. They also like it on the acid side - add some driftwood. Feed them a variety of quality dry, frozen and live foods to the extent you can to condition them for spawning. It is VERY common for fish that don't give each other the time of day for weeks or months to show interest in spawning overnight. And it will often happen even if you haven't done anything new. Go figure. Piscine love is a very fickle thing.

Those are both really pretty GBRs, and definitely a male and female. Not only is the fact that they are staying close and not harrassing each other a good sign, but the pics make it look like they are favoring that flat rock. That's a really good sign, because that's an ideal site for them to lay eggs. They like flat, clean surfaces like that. If you see them start to clean it or guard it, then it's on. They do still look a bit young judging by the apparent length of fins, though, so it may take them some time to figure it all out (if they indeed end up breeding). My own attempt at pairing two GBRs hasn't been close to successful, so I envy your possibilities!

Well you are correct. That very flat rock in the pictures is now covered with eggs. That was faster then I ever expected. How soon should I expect fry? The only fish in the tank right now are the rams so its all to them. Any advice would be appreciated.
