Hi,
New to aquariums. I currently have a 38 g tank with goldfish/two snails. I have an Amazon sword and another plant I purchased at LFS which is lovely and tall. I love the way the real plants look and the fish enjoy swimming through them.
The LFS doesn't have a huge selection of plants, and the Petco,Petsmart Superpetz have mediocre plants at best.
Where does one purchase plants? Suggestions?

Also, I'm confused about substrate. I currently have river gravel. I realize if I want more plants I should purchase an actual soil type medium for root growth and nutrition. Suggestions. Again the stores in my area are not carrying anything but gravel.

Thanks.:dive2:

If Mgamer doesnt have it, the classifieds of fellow hobbyists either here, aquaticplantcentral.com or plantedtank.net is where I look. Another plus from hobbyists is that your usually buying submerged growth, and plants already adapted to similar CO2/light conditions.

i wont buy plants from the LFS any more after buyin from here and other fish keepers

I buy the plants I have planned on buying from the classified section of AC. But sometimes I'll see a plant in a LFS tank and If I have the room and money at the time, I buy it.

I grew tons of different plant in river gravel. Plus gravel allows for much easier vacuuming than many other substrates. I think you will find with plants that you will vacuum a lot of nasty stuff out of your substrate, after a short while.
