So I was wondering if anyone knew how I could eliminate the snail pop in my tank.
They are completely overwhelming it and it looks messy. They are just trumpet snails and common round ones with the big antennae sticking up.
I have discus and Amano shrimp that I don't want to lose, do I have any options. Also don't want to kill my plants. Would clown loaches eat the Amano shrimp?
Try putting in a lettuce leaf overnight and in the morning it should have loads of snails on it then you can just take out the lettuce with snails on. You can do this every day untill you feel you have the population under control. You can also buy snail traps but have never used one myself.
why not just get them a snail litter box :)

Canned Green Beans!! Put the green bean in a baby food jar, put it on it's side and remove jar and snails in the morning. Repeat til satisfied. :)

I have put multiple lettuce leaves overnite in the past. I tie them to fishing line so i dont have to keep reaching to the bottom. Sometimes they even crawl on the line.

Clown loaches will eat Amano shrimp if given the opprotunity.
Somd kind of purchased or DIY snail trap is the way to go.

yoyo loaches could be an option. I kept yoyos and amanos together with no issues. They also won't grow to be a foot long :)
If you don't want to change the stocking of your tank then I'd have to agree with all the other posts. I like the fishing line idea too, why didn't I think of that?

The thing to keep in mind is that Yo-Yo's and Clown Loaches get big, really big.
Also, as I understand, the problem with assassin snails is that they, too, breed, so instead of a tank full of multiple kinds of snails, you end up with a tank of all assassin snails.

Most of the time populations can be controlled through feeding less and more frequent gravel vacs. I am not a proponent of buying a fish to provide a service, increase gravel vacs and decrease feeding and you will see a dramatic drop in the populace of the snails:)

They breed real slow and grow real slow, plus the young can be sold to help fund your addiction.
They also require a male and a female so once you see 2 mating remove one and no more problem.
