Just got these two in the LFS on special offer but the young guy working in the shop didnt know the name of it.. I thought it looked like amazon sword but im not sure?

I think the two maybe different? Both stem upwards but 'plant1' has more skinnier leaves but not as long.. 'plant2' has less leaves but longer and broader. Im thinking they are both the same family but different kinds..

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what they are?

Many thanks

I agree with petluvr, and no they are not truely aquatic.

So should I get rid of them, bring them back to the store? How can a lfs sell plants that are not for fish tanks? Doesnt make any sense to me...Does not truly aquatic mean I can keep them but they shouldn't technically be there or is it a bad idea to keep them?

Scientific name is Dracaena Fragrans and it is a terrestrial plant only. Take it out and plant it in a pot in soil in a high light high humidity place and it will grow beautifully into a house plant most big box stores that sell plants don't sell truely aquatic plants. Did you buy this from a chain store?

No I got it from my LFS and they had it in a fish tank... Are you sure its a corn plant I took a look at pics of corn plants and they have a streak in the middle of the leaves but these do not... Im pretty sure both of these are different kinds because of the size of the leaves..

thanks for that! So is that in your tank? If I was to leave them in the tank would it be bad for the tank? What are the problems with leaving something like that in the tank?

Yes, it is in my 55 turtle tank but they usually don't last long, I only buy them so my turtle and my snails can munch on it as you can see by the giant bite marks and missing spots:) If left in a tank over a period of time it will rot and decompose spoiling your water.

I'd see if the LFS will take them as a return. I cannot tell you how many times I've gotten non-aquatics, it's really really really annoying and now if they don't have a marker I don't buy them, though I've become pretty good at spotting non-aquatics now lol. When I asked my LFS why they sold non-aquatics in their tanks they said it was mostly for turtle tanks and outdoor ponds, I asked them to be sure to label them that way and now they do, thank goodness lol

I would return it as well. It will decompose and make a mess.
