My 10g is becoming a shrimp tank...

Here's my current shopping list....am I missing anything?

- Substrate: As msjinkzd suggested, I'll be getting a dark substrate. I was thinking black fluorite sand...not sure yet, though.

- Two sponge filters (any tips on buying these? I've never used them before)

- Thermometer

- New smaller gravel vac; I currently have a large one

- Food: I currently have algae wafers and I also feed veggies to my other tanks, however I am thinking of picking up some of this "crab cuisine" I have seen mentioned so many times.

- Driftwood

I have 2 heaters that I think will work. I will find some rocks to toss in. I have some low-light plants already that are growing like crazy, so they will provide some nice places to hide. Loads of moss. :)

Anything else I am forgetting?

Sounds good! I like the hydro sponge pro filters. I like these better than the standard sponge filters because the sponge is a bit courser and seem to get occluded less. I just swapped out all my tanks with sponge filters to these about a month or two ago and am really impressed.

I probably shouldn't be admitting this but when I first bought all my shrimp tank equipment I didn't realize that I would need a separate air pump with the hydro sponge filter. I opened up the filter and immediately though wait a minute. You probably know this already but in case you don't, get an air pump :p

Actually the pro filters are designed for use with a powerhead, aren't they? Do you use air pumps of powerheads msjinkzd?

LOL....Fortunately, I discovered that while reading about them a little while ago. So, yep, I do know that. But it's a good thing to point out, so thank you! The powerhead question is a good one, I read that you should use air pumps in shrimp tanks because the powerhead flow may be too much.

You can use the replacement sponges with either. I had the original hydro complete sponge filters, so I just bought the pro replacement sponges and changed out the sponges.

agreed on the eco complete, I use that myself. About the gravel vac though, I bought one as well but it's just gathering dust now. I vac with airline tubing to avoid sucking up any shrimp. It takes longer but it's just a 10 gallon so it's not bad at all.
