I have 3 runners coming off of my Italian Vals and I'm wondering if I should just push the roots into the gravel, cut them off and plant them elsewhere in the tank, or just let them float in the water as they are doing now till they get more roots?

I'd cut them and replant.

i would leave them they will grow down in the gravel given time. i tend to wait until they are a few inch tall before removing them from the mother plant.

Me, I push them into the gravel and let them grow a good amount before taking them away from the larger plant. Once they are decently sized, I move them to another part of the tank where they can grow some more and create more runners. Don't worry, pretty soon you will have more Val than you know what to do with. I have to constantly pull them out of my tank every month or the place turns into a jungle.

I just push them back in the substrate and put a rock on the runner if I can so it won't happen again. I usually cut it from the mother plant after they are about 6 inches tall.
