hi all. first post. while doing water changes this morning, my wife was trimming house plants. i was wondering if i could put spyder plant in my 25 gal. that has been cycling for 1 week? i realize they will not live, but i was thinking it would look cool until i get fish & plants for it. or could this poison my tank? tank has lake sand & gravel mixed substrate & 2 pcs. of lake driftwood. THANKS, DOC.

Maybe try it with roots in the water & leaves out the top? I'm pretty sure other than the hazard of dying & rotting leaves spider plants are non-toxic... At least my birds used to mow them all the time with no ill effects.

yea i wouldn't try to fully submerge it but you could probably have some floating around the top

I have seen open tanks with spider plants floating on top. Actually looked pretty cool!

thanx all. i went ahead and put them in, roots in substrate. looks nice, beats looking at a bare tank!! will pull them out at the first sign of rot!!

Get some java fern, it's very easy & attractive, especially the lace (windelov). & get cycling! No fish & no plants can't be allowed for long!
