Getting ready to start up a 10 gallon DP tank. Just wanted some recommendations for some good low light plants that will fill it out nice.

The bolded ones have all done well in my tank, and the puffers love the java fern. Hornwort didn't turn out so well for me (1.8 wpg over a 10g). I haven't tried anacharis. Be sure to post pics!

I too had a bad experience with hornwort, but others have gotten it to work. Same goes with anacharis but I personally didn't like the look of the plant.

I agree, it makes a mess. Just keep in mind that most low light plants are slow growers so it may take a while for things to fill in...

ok. i got the tank and 2 15 watt cfl bulbs. only problem is when the lights are in they touch the reflector and plastic cover. is the plastic needed and is it ok if they touch the reflector? i would just remove them but then i would have light shining through the vent holes onto the ceiling. also the plastic isn't one big piece. it is two little pieces that are not even as long as the spiral bulbs.

hey JD.. where did you get the lights for the 10g tank.. i am setting upa dwarf puffer tank too.. and would like to get MAX light i can so my plants can grown.... and how are you gonna supply Co2.. i think for a 10G tank a bottle of SEACHEM will do fine..

for substrate i am gonna use fluorite.... i want some good hiding places.. i think i will use a coco cave.. which is me buying a coconut at the market.. cutting it in half.. gutting them.. sanding them down the outside just to the hard shell to remove all dirt.. boiling them for about 4-5 minutes and putting them in the tank.. great hiding places/homes..

are you doing driftwood.. and how many puffer are you doing.
i think i am gonna do the 2 female - 1 male combo?

Hey dark, i just went to walmart and bought 2 of the spiral 15 watt 6500k daylight bulbs. Seem to be working well so far. As for CO2, i'm not sure if i'm gonna use any. I'm gonn try it out with no CO2 for a while and see how it goes. If it turns out that i need it, i'll most likely go the DIY route. I ended up using eco-complete, i like the black color. I was looking at flourite, but read a few places that it is really dusty. I'm not sure though cause i've never used it. I'm hoping to do driftwood. If for nothing else then just to grow some java moss on it. But i just need to find a small enough piece that will look good in my tank. I'm also gonna try the 2f-1m.
