Can I split it without it melting?

I had a thread about trimming down crypts and most of the responses were to either move it or split the plant. I ended up moving it but here's the thread with the responses...

Thanks for the thread link. I have some c. wendtiis planted as the foreground in my 10g and, after some initial melts, they're doing well -- too well! :eek3:

No problem irishspy! I wasn't aware at the time that crypts could be split. I actually thought it was all one plant. Nice to know since they tend to get out of hand...

I just got a crypto wendtii..The guy in the shop said I could split it but the roots were too tightly secured to the wool and I didnt want to destroy it by ripping it off so I took as much of the wool off as possible and planted the whole thing as one.. Only time will tell now...

Thanks! I have a plan. Dig it up out of the gravel with a spoon and just get the scissors in one snip.

I did the same thing and the plant is fine. In fact, the thing is getting huge....

Yeah, I split my C. Lutea which is very much like wendtii, I could have upwards of 20+ individual plants :).
I already have 7 bunches out of the orginal 1 I got.
