Discus hiding

Hi all, I have a planted 90G setup with 5 juvenile discus.

2 were recent purchases, up until which the alpha male antagonised his tankmates. Since then though, one of the fish has been dark-eyed, showing her stress bars strongly and does not school around with the rest of the fish often.

She is eating and her feces are still brown. At times she can exhibit healthy behaviour, but i am suspecting with all the hiding that something may be wrong.

I am considering quarantining the single fish in a 20G and treating her with some sort of medication, although i am unsure what i am dealing with here, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

How long have you had them and what size are they? If you can not identify the issue, I would not medicate. Also, what temperature are you maintaining them at?

I try to keep a temp of about 85.

She is about 3.5 inches.

The water params are great because all the others are swimming about and eating voraciously. She does come out when its feeding time, but spits out some of the foot. She's definitely eating though as i can see the shape of her belly and her feces.

She's still getting picked on by the alpha (all of them are) but i think she's not dealing with the stress well. Keep in mind at the beginning i had this tank running with just the two RTs (one who is now the alpha, and the other one who i am talking about) and they were the best of friends, but when one started getting territorial and nipping/chasing, he prevented her from eating comfortably and i wanted to add more discus to break up the tension.

I feel it did, as the aggression is now divided amongst the tankmates but i feel her condition has not improved. I will try and get some photos of her today and post them

i would remove it from the tank and keep in the 20g alone.
monitor the fish and try and get back normal, as advised dont medicate if you dont know what it is but it sounds like it may not be handling being picked on very well.
keep us updated

this is a typical issue with small schools of Discus.

if the smaller discus is being harassed then you may benefit by removing the solitary fish and nursing it back to health.

discus normally have a voracious appetite but prefer to graze.
at this size the fish should be getting fed several times per day with frequent water changes.
at any rate i would consider increasing the school size to help dissipate the aggression.
