I just bought a used canister online. The Eheim 2213, The outflow nob at the top has been broken off. The threading is still attached, but the smooth plastic end piece meant to slip inside of the rubber/plastic tubing has broken off.

We were going to try to use silicon and seal the entire joint connector, thread, and bolt all together never to be removed again. It has an attachment shutoff valve at the end where I can disconnect it from the outtake tube, so I dont mind sealing the connector there together.

I know this entire area gets a lot of strain, but I was wondering what I should use on the plastic.

I dont want the thread and everything to be sealed forever, but still leak.

I suggest you use a plastic welder to glue the plastic together... you can also try acetone but that probably won't be as strong and you have to apply small amounts to keep it soft for a while

regular krazy glue is fish safe. I used to "fix" my cheap impellor cover.

you could also try using silicone over the krazy glue, i don't think crazy glue alone will keep it from leaking.

THose parts are expensive. After the glue settles you could wrap some ductape around.

okay, the glue did NOT work, but I was able to find a connector nob that screwed onto the threading and fit into the tubing. it works awesome with some plumbing tape! no leaks, and it was under 5.00 at home depot

I'm glad you posted back with your solution and that it works. Can you tell us what specific part you purchased so others may utilize a quick fix?

just write eheim an email requesting a replacement part.

Im not sure what it was called, but I brought the top of the canister and tubing to home depot and was able to find something that fit

If you have a choice in your area, I've discovered while setting up my new fish room, Lowes has a much better selection of fittings and parts in their plumbing department. I've got five Home Depots within 15 minutes of my house and had to visit all five to find half of the Lasco (barbed and threaded plastic) fittings that I needed to hook up my breeder tank sumps. I finally went to Lowes, 'cuz I didn't feel like waiting for an on-line order, and found everything that I needed. One of the Dept. Managers at the orange Borg told me that they were discontinuing those fittings and a bunch of other stuff to try and concentrate on just the higher volume selling products.

This may not hold true all over the country, but I'm pretty sure that their buyers make decissions based on regional preferences, so it's probably good for most of the country. The other good thing was that the prices were a lot better. 1" barbed elbows w/ 1" FIP (female iron pipe) thread ends were less than a dollar a piece. Their vinyl hose and PVC valves were also cheaper, and they had almost twice the selection of specialty fittings, reducers, hangers and adapters.

get a plumbers epoxy ...goop has a pre mixed one others you need to mix yourself ...i dont know how it will affect your fish so i'd seal over it w/ silicon

I would have tried "model airplane glue" which is plastic dissolved in acetone. It should serve to weld the parts back together.
