I have a 29 gallon with a single convict right now. I want to add cories. How many are reccommended?
Also, I like black skirt tetras, but im thinking with the convict that wont work out. what do you think? Is there any kind of schooling fish that would work out, or is it best to just stick to the convict?

Not quite sure about how many cories, but had an idea for schooling fish. Giant danios are quick and only about two inches maybe 2.5. Fast enough to avoid a convict and small enough (IMO) for a 29 gal.

I would agree with Tifftastic....Giant Danios will probably be your best bet for a schooling fish...because of the smaller size of your tank-and what your main fish is.
For the Corries....what size is your Convict? Oh and is it a planted tank?

The convict right now is about 1.5 inches long. The tank is planted with fake plants. I also have a couple of fake logs that make caves for hiding places.

I currently have 6 adult corydoras aenus and about 12 VERY young juvies in my 29. Of course other than some snails and RCS they are the only thing in the tanks. If I had to recommend a number I would say about 9:)

I'd go with 6 cories
Well depending on if you are going to end up getting more then one Convict NO...and if you don't plan on moving the Cories (or the Convict) out NO.....Im sorry if this puts a stick in your spokes...but I just don't think that a Convict is the proper tank mate for Corys....IF you do end up going with some please find somewhere that you can get full gown (or very close to) Corys from...as they will be harder for the Convict(s) to attack

A 29 gallon is has a footprint of only 30" x 12"...not enough room for a convict IMO (or giant danios). And corys are not good tank mates.

corydoras do not do well with convict cichlids. even when they are not breeding, convicts are just to aggressive

Cories are gentle incarnate. I'd have to say cons are the opposite... A deffinate no from me.

As with all cichlids, the personality of your convict could be completely opposite from mine. However, I had a convict that would attack ANYTHING that came within a 12" radius. I would agree with everyone else and say that cories are not a good mix with these fish.
