I already wrote something sometime ago about my Discus pair that will not lay eggs anymore. My para's are right etc etc. Would it do any harm putting another male in the tank to stir things up? They are a pair that have layed eggs many times before but have not in about three months. I change the water once a week. I am puzzled.

Try changing 30% of the water everyday around 5-6. pm

Do the water changes with some ro water to drop the tds don't worry about the temp let it drop the temp in your tank this will simulate rain fall plus feed some live food BS or worms black or white.

That should do the trick, if it fails you could add the 2 male but be sure that if the female switches partners you are ok with the offspring you will get.

Been feeding them Discus pellets in the morning frozen blood worms at night. I sometimes feed them flakes, and menu mix not often though. To get them to start laying eggs again, changing the water 30% daily can't hurt. I will try RO water, I just don't have the machine to make it. I can buy it can't I? Correct me if I am wrong. Willing to try anything.

yes, you can find RO water or distilled water. both will have 0 tds or close to it.

Mine have been spawning about every 2-3 weeks. but they are in a discus community tank.

Soon I may not have time to raise them. I may have to go back to school; whatever US Dept of Labor says. Since RO water is readily available going about putting it in my tank, how much, how long and where can I get it? All new to me.

Use 5 gal at your water changes for a couple of weeks and see what happens

What is your temp and PH? Temps between 83 and 90 are normal. Bring your PH down to 6.4 if it's not there already. The above post about the water temp fluctuations is a great stimulator. Sounds like your diet could use some additions also. Try frozen mysis shrimp and brine shrimp and possibly some beefheart. Rotate this with the pellets and blood worm. A varied diet makes discus extra frisky!

pH is not really a big factor in spawns.. more the TDS or gh.

mine spawn readily and with success in a pH 7.0-7.2 but my gh is low (5-6) and kh is 3-4.

using ro or distilled water should lower ther TDs and increase the chances of the eggs being fertilized. provided the parents are viable.
