View Full Version : HOW CAN I MAKE BACKROUND SHOW UP BETTER ?
I have a nice backround for my 100 G Accrylic tank, however, once water is in the tank the backround fades away and you can hardly see it. I have heard something about a product that you can apply to the backround and it secures the backround to the tank and at the same time makes the backround much more visible. can someone tell me what this product is called and is it safe to use on plexiglass ?

I heard that spray-on cooking oil or vaseline helps to stick it on. I just paint my backgrounds, so I never have this problem.
I know when water gets behind there, the wet spot really shows up. I need something that won't harm accrylic.

I've also seen some glue-stick looking thing they sell at the LFS that take care of this problem, I don't know the name of it, but you should go look for it when you're over there.
I think i will. i just never noticed the stuff at the store before. I wonder if petco/petsmart has it ?

what kind of background are you trying to apply?
I used vaseline in the past and it worked pretty well. Just smear on a thin layer.

Focus the attention on the inhabitants and not the background...JMO.
Im confused---are you trying to put the background on the inside or outside of the tank?

cooking oil on the back works very will
The picture you get off the roll at the store. It has a nice backdrop that is not distracting but rather enhances my rockscape/sand and makes the tank look deeper from front to back than it already is. When water is in the tank it just gets dark unless water drips between the backround and the back of the tank. of course the backround goes on the outside. Is vasalene safe for acryllic or will it attack the plastic like ammonia windex will ?
vaseline will not do any harm to the acryllic.

Ah ok:) Well Bert you have to humor me I use to work at a pet store..and we had MANY a person come in asking why their background just kept falling into the middle of their tank!
falling into the tank ? those backrounds are for the outside back of the tank, i bet some people will try to put them inside even though they are made from paper.
I just want to make sure vasaline won't attack the plexiglass like windex did when the wife used it to wipe of fingerprint smudges, all these tiny cracks in the surface of the tank, good thing they were at the very top edge where they are hard to see. is there a commercial product for this ?
