I hope you tech folks who follow microsoft development enjoy this...

Its based on the same kernal as Vista, however the footprint on resources has been dramaticlly reduced..Its VERY fast all round...copying files to dvd, across the network or to pen drives, installing apps.. IMPRESSED

Drivers...Well, this hardware is about 3 years old, everything besides the sound card got their drivers installed out of the box..Just downloaded SoundMax Drivers from Dell, installed without issue, works fine.... IMPRESSED

If i take a look back to when i as working on the development builds of Windows Vista, before it went to Beta, i was only kinda impressed....However, with Windows 7, I AM VERY IMPRESSED....Concidering were testing development builds, and you can do a fresh install of it, and only have to download sound card drivers, thats pretty impressive....Back with Vista, i had to download sound, video, network and the base motherboard driver package.... IMPRESSED

It was origonaly conceived that it would be 2009...however, as Microsoft have introduced a new internal "quality bar" system ( a more intensive testing of builds and compatibility ), it may even be, early 2010....that will be within keeping of the 3 years time span...There is no deffinitive answer to this yet..

** As a side note, for those who visit torrent sites, do not bother to download the builds which are available...the one floating round is very unstable as its an early dev build and most features are locked away from sight.. **

hmm.... looks to me like they could call it a major service pack to Vista, instead of making it a whole new operating system...

but it's really great news, as i love Vista and a smoother running version of windows that is nearly visually identical would be sweet.

LOL....Excuzzeme.....read what i said....its NOT a resource hog....lol

and yes, it work very well for a dev build....

WINDOWS 7?

where are windows 1-6?
Did I miss something?

I scrapped vista for XP sp3...
This looks like it might be worthwhile, pending any software compatibility issues..

Windows 7 is the internal name for it...no idea what the name of it will be when its released....not experienced any compatibility issues with it with all the software i commonly use....so far....

I agree...did you see nikos specs? I'm surprised he can even run windows on that machine!

LOL...I run Vista Ultimate on my home computer....thats just a semperon 1.8ghz and 1gb ram....runs absolutly fine....
