well i feed my betta every other day ( is that okay?) and i rotate between freeze dried bloodworms, this small pellet type betta food i got at petco, and then hikari thawed bloodworms for a treat (WEEKLY)... i was just wandering what other poeple give their bettas and are ther any critiques on my bettas diet.. :hi:
I think that would be ok (feeding every other day)... how much do you give them per day? I give my bettas 2-3+ pellets 2x a day, and sometimes switch to flakes. They get frozen brine shrimp once a week.
Mine gets what everyone else in the tank gets...a combo of Hikari flakes and freeze dried blood worms, algae wafers, and occassionally frozen brine shrimp and veggies like peas or zucchini. He seems to go after a little of everything. I also give him a Hikari betta pellet daily...after the feeding frenzy is over and the other fish swim off, he waits at the top and chases my fingers around until I give hime one. I think the pellet makes him feel special and reinforces our little bond . I don't think there's anything wrong with your diet, other than maybe feed him the innards of a pea once a week...betta seem to get constipated easily, and adding some regular fiber to their diet can't hurt (mine really likes them). Feeding every other day is fine also...at the petstore I work at we only feed them twice a week (so they don't create as much waste in their cups between water changes) and none of them look emaciated, just really bored. I think most fish species can handle up to a week without being fed.
Oh yea! I forgot about live food since that's not something I usually do intentionally. He eats guppy fry (whenever they give birth), and just recently I tried some ghost shrimp..more to see if the rainbows would eat them (yes), but I don't know if he caught any. He was definitely giving chase
I normally feed mine Hikari bio-gold pellets, 2-3 twice a day. Also a once-a-week treat with freeze-dried bloodworms, and then a fasting day on Sundays.
Of course, my new guy is refusing to eat anything I've given him so far, so he's getting his fast right now. :irked:
