so i have my Novus acrylic scratch removal kit.. my acrylic tank .. and my microfiber cloth... time for war..

and the tank won..
well not really.... so here is what i have done so far..
i wanted to try out the side of the tank just for testing - i really will probably start on it tomorrow..... but i was kinda anxious and did a little in my apartment today..

#1 when i started the scratches where easily felt with my fingers.. i applied a liberal amount of Novus #3 to my micro-cloth and gave a good 30-60 hard rub on the acrylic... just with that scrub session the scratches visibly got smaller and are hardly felt with my finger now.. i was quite impressed

#2 i did some more rubbing with novus #3 and the scratches seems to stay the smallest they would with that rubbing compound.. in my opinion novus #3 did the job it said it would of removing heavy marks.. i consider was if left on the side i am working on fine marks.. which is what Novux#2 is specifically for..

#3 i didnt start on novus #2 yet because the bottle warns that the work enviorment should be done in a well ventilated.. my living room is not the best site for this... so tomorrow i will take my tank to my parents house and work on it..

#4 i have high expectation for Novus#2 .. as i said before almost instantly the novus #3 drastically downsized the marks from heavy to fine.. ... but i must say that rubbing the inside of the arylic tank by hand is a workout in itself.. dont doubt this.. my bicep grew about 1-2 inches from rubbing the compound for the 5-10 minutes i did.. and it didht help that i was rubbing up .. i should have flipped that side i was working on the ground and rubbed down to make it easier..

#5 so i always set high ecpectations for myself.. i wanted this tank to be show quality.. like almost invisible .. but i know will settle with micro-scratches if that is the lowest i can get them.. as long as when water is in the tank it is clear with no scratches .. here are some bad pics.. kinda hard to take picks of something clear.. first pic is pre-novus#3 and second is after novus #3... pic do no justice.. there is a great difference between before i started and now.

Wow nice, keep us updated.

You've done a real good job there, darkmindzz. When I saw the first pic, I thought that was the result and started formulating a "Dude, you have no hope" type post in my mind...then I saw the second pic! Wow!! Excellent work! Keep at it, that's looking real nice!!

thanks guys.. more pic to follow tonight.. i plan on doing a major load of work today... before the turkey enzyme put me to sleep..
stay tuned.

;) The NOVUS line of products is very good. (samples came w/ my tank) If you have access to a low speed buffer, it might help (unless you're looking for the workout!) I haven't dealt w/ any scratches that severe but I have seen the before & after of some damaged acrylic up close & the product lives up to it's claim. Good luck w/ yours. "T"

So where did you pick up the polish from? I have a badly scratched acrylic tank (previous owners child apparently really liked the tank) and would like to buff the scratches out. Seems like what you have is the way to go.

 Samples came w/ my tank (mfgr. recommendation). It can be found at some of the pricier LFS's but they might not have all three. Try http://www.novuspolish.com/ . "T"

looks pretty good.
I had no doubt they could be buffed out.
I use a low speed buffer with hard compounds quite often. they have various types of compounds to buff nearly everything including chrome.
novus is pretty good stuff for a liquid compound and works pretty good on acrylics.

good job.. keep in mind you are really just trying to reduce the sharp edge of the scratch once you get it there they will be less visible when water is added to the tank.
;)
