I've been playing with fire and browsing kensfish again. I had some questions about feeding nerites, brigs, and red cherry shrimp.

Has anyone tried feeding Ken's Premium Veggie Mini Disc (No Carb Sinking)?

Would no/low carb foods be any better than fresh veggies, algae wafers, crab cuisine, ken's veggie sticks, and snail jello for brigs, nerites, and red cherries?

How about Ken's Premium Spirulina Sticks? I see that spirulina is some type of algae but what's so special about it?

Would ken's premium veggie sticks or ken's premium spirulina sticks be good to feed to nerites if they've run out of algae?

Sorry for the torrent of questions but there are SO many different kinds of foods on kensfish!

Spirulina is supposed to be like a super food. You can get it in healthfood stores for yourself (I think the chemical composition is similar to something in us, or it's similar to something that's good for us... I can't remember exactly). Either way, it's excellent for fish and other critters (I've used it to make dog biscuits, to feed daphnia and brine shrimp, with microworm cultures, in fruit fly cultures, etc).

As far as Ken's food goes, his premium spirulina leaves a bit to be desired in the ingredients. His premium veggie, on the other hand, has some great ingredients, and I have the flakes for my tropheus. I haven't tried the no-carb stuff yet, but I'm definately going to be ordering some the next time that I have some extra cash. I just wish he'd make a true Tropheus flake, of the no-carb variety, or even a wafer, without all of the extra meat products in it.

I tried the no carb micro pellets and the fish didn't really love them, but the inverts liked them.

I use the veggie sticks, but they break down a bit quickly in the water. I prefer the catfish pellets for my shrimp and snails as they still have 16% calcium and hold together better. He had told me (last week again) that he is going to fortify the catfish pellets further with calcium for snails. I will email him again and ask what the ETA on that is.

I add spirulina to alot of my homemade foods.

i bought ken's pure spirulina, 100% pure and use it in my snail jello with the reptile calcium and they at least the shrimp and mts and rams love it my briggs still don't eat jello as well,..

here is a pic of my snail jello ,..lol at least the ponds love it,..

wowee thats more a lump of pouch snails than a lump of snail jello haha. I'd save that pic for when people come asking how to get rid of their "snail infestations"

I went to a few health food and vitamin shops today and I couldn't believe how expensive their spirulina was, and it wasn't even 100%! Even including shipping costs, kensfish gives twice the spirulina for half the price. Shouldn't have doubted kensfish.

I have used several of the kens sinking sticks for my shrimp. They shrimp like them but as mentioned above they break down quickly in water so you need to make sure your not overfeeding since you can't remove the extra without siphoning some water out too.
