Last week I purchased 4 little Julii corydoras; Friday one was dead when lights came on. I took it back to the LFS and they replaced it with the last one they had; this morning - another one dead!!

My params are 0-0-6; the one I found dead this morning has red sides (abdomen?) behind the pectoral fins....
Any ideas on what is going on!?!? THe LFS is 20 miles away and I really don't want to take a dead one back every other day - but @ $4.00 a piece it is really ticking me off; besides the fact that are so darn cute! I really want them to survive......:help:

What temp are you running the tank at?

What specific foods are you feeding?

The tank is 78* and I have tried Shrimp pellets, bottom feeder tablets, algae wafers and some tetra flakes. I have not seen them eat anything although they are rooting around in the sand.....

I'm sorry they're not doing well, red sounds like it could be a bacterial infection to me. Are you having to remove uneaten food each day? Are they in a quarantine tank?

As for returning the dead, try calling the store & explaining (to a manager/owner if possible). Maybe you can freeze it until your next trip.

Fingers crossed for the rest of your new corys.

I talked to the LFS and I only have 14 days to bring any dead back. I will put this one in the freezer and wait to see if any more die. They are in a tank all by themselves. I had hopes of putting them in my betta tank but not at this rate.
I have a few snails in the tank and they are taking care of any pellets that do not get eaten.......
Gah!! Makes me so mad!!!!

Thanks for the advice.....

I don't think it's your fault. Corys seem sensitive to being moved and shipped IMO. I've bought several 'batches' of Corys and I always buy extra and then get to praying because I seem to lose so many during quarrantine. And if they turn up with ich my odds go down even further as they don't deal well with salt/heat.
I love the little guys though, it seems once they're been here a month they're bulletproof.

I recently got three false julii corys, and one of them died a few days after adding them. He had red on his sides as well and at the very end (last few hours before he died) his eye was popping a bit and his tail fin was starting to rot away. My params were 0-0-10 and no other fish exhibited any symptoms whatsoever, including the two other corys I purchased with him. The consensus on AC was bacterial infection, and though the diagnosis came too late for him, I dosed pimafix and melafix for a week, and no other fish ever showed any symptoms and all are healthy to this day. I have no idea if the pimafix/melafix prevented the other fish from getting ill, or if they would have been fine regardless, but it certainly didn't hurt.

Well, I lost another one. I am dosing meds as suggested but do not hold out much hope. For now I am putting them in the freezer and will return them all at the same time.....Bummer.:shakehead:

Hey noodles, it's bad, sick stock. Juliis especially seem to turn up from the LFS with the exact symptoms you are seeing. I didn't think I would ever get enough to live to have a group of 6, but I kept trying. Now I won't buy any from the LFS anymore, only from breeders and trusted online fish places. Good luck to you, it's tough to go through!
