A few months ago I got a 90 litre tank to replace my 2 fish tanks, I cycled it and put the fish and new plants into it with no problems (which took at least a month), but i'm now getting lots of strands of algae, it started off very small so i just kept removing it from the glass, but it now seems to be on the plants as well as the glass. All my api test kit readings are normal and I do regular water changes. I did have a sucker loach but had to re-home it as it got to big!! so I don't really want to get another Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the algae as it doesn't look good?

algae is normal for an aquarium. an abundance of algae is usually the result of an imbalance in the tank.(lights and nutrients)
is the tank planted? how much light do you have? how long is the light on?
have you tried cutting back on feeding?

The tank has 1 rock in it with 3 plants which have grown alot !!:) i have the lighting on a timer of no more than 10 hours a day the tank has a twin tube which it came with, the tank is the fluval rena 90 litre and the fish i have are fed once a day, I have also tryed feeding every other day but only for a week as i was told fish need feeding every day in small amounts, the fish are 1 angel 1 male pearl gouramis 2 clown loachs 2 red honey gouramis and a few danios as these were all in my other tank and i'd like to sort this before adding new fish to the tank!!:)

I would suggest changing lighting to 8 hours a day. I would also add more plant. An abundance of plants will use the available nutrients, leaving them unavailable for the algae.

before you get too carried away .
90 Liter? that is about 23 gallons.

I would suspect given the current stock level..the bioload may be the problem. or soon will be.

while none of these fish is a tank buster. the angel will get too large for this tank. alone you may be able to pull it off. but add the pearl gourami which can hit 4-5" and 2 smaller gouramis , a couple of clown loaches and some danios.

i would say the tank is a bit over stocked.

you could try cutting back on light a bit to 8 hrs.

You state that you are using the light that came with the tank. That light, for plants, is probably about half of what you really need. Rule of thumb for balancing plant life with algae is giving your plants just enough of what they need to keep algae at bay. The more efficient you make your plants, the less efficient algae is.

You should have 60 watss off light in this tank. You should also have 10 to 20 ppm Nitrates and 10 to 20 ppm phosphates. If any of these is too high or too low, then you will have an issue with algae. Since your plants are doing OK. I would assume that your micro nutrients are probably on track.

Thanks for the advice i'm going to cut the lighting back to 8 hrs and add some new plants so hopefully this will sort the problem, My nitrates are always 10 ppm i'm not sure about the phosphates as my test kit doesn't test for them. I've also done a extra water change this week which seems to have helped.
