I have been lurking at this forum for a long time but not posting. I thought I'd start off with showing off the stream we put in last summer. Of course I am already planning to change it. I am adding a skimmer next spring so it is eaiser to keep clean.
These pictures were taken soon after I got it all replanted so some of the plants are in poor shape from moving them and I hadn't mulched some of the newly added plants yet. I lifted some of the daylilies several times. I took a picture from both ends. I had a dry bed stream here for several years. This area was once a drainage ditch but I put in raised beds on each side of it which redirected the runoff so it was no longer needed to drain the area. It is about 30 feet long.

Thank you all for the complements.
As for livestock I have a few rosy reds in there to eat the mosquito larva. It isn't very deep except for the one end that is about 5' wide and a little over 3' deep in the center. Most of it is from 3" to 12" deep.
I put small fish in so they wouldn't eat any frog or toad spawn that may happen.
I was suprised to find that even though it is mostly shaded the water can get pretty warm on the hottest summer days.

I have left it running for the winter but am woried that it may ice dam and freeze my pump.
My husband says it won't. What do you all think?
I'm in central Indiana. It can get pretty cold here but it doesn't stay completly frozen for long periods.

Holy cow, how beautiful! I'm not sure about the pump freezing, but if you have constantly moving water that shouldn't be a problem, unless it gets extremely cold for a long period of time. (which you said it didn't)

Your stream looks great, now for the next project you should build a Koi pond and connect it to the stream that would be allsome.
