Hi, I want to put an air pump in my fancies tank, just for an aesthetic effect. The only thing is, I don't understand exactly what you need - sounds silly I know. I think you get an air pump, attach a plastic airline and attach that to an air stone or a bubble wand. Am I right? Are there any size requirements depending on the size or stocking of the tank? i don't even know what external filters are like ):

Well you have to have enough power to push the air through the pressure that is in what ever size of tank you have. So if you have a 10 gal....you want a pump that is rated for a LEAST a 10 gal!:) Oh and yes that is all you need...just remember that if you aren't hooking it up to some sort of decoration you want to have a weighted Stone..or a wand that has suction cups!

If you're using it for aesthetics only, then exactly what abi88 said.

Also, if you're going to sit it beneath the water line (on a stand beneath the tank for example) make sure you get a non flow return valve to stop water siphoning back into the unit if it's switched off. Just make a cut in the tubing and insert it in between.

:) Well stocking isn't really an issue but tank size (depth in particular), number of stones - decorations ect. & length of run (airhose) do play a factor. As mentioned above, placement (below the tank) will require a one-way valve to prevent possible backflow if power is off. http://www.aquatics-warehouse.co.uk/acatalog/A000_RENA_QUIET_8.html "T"

Okay, thanks (:

well.... you may want to get a few backup airstones... they will get clogged
