Please excuse the slight shell erosion as they were a little damaged from the acidity of the water of their original owner. They're being supplemented at the moment with plenty of calcium so their shells can repair nicely.

First three pics show a mother Pomacea canaliculata. She has 3-4 clutches. Second is hatching at the moment with over 150 babies. I struggled to pry her off the breeder box because her weight is pulling the clutches down the water.:swear:

Mmmm... loach food! :lipssealedsmilie:
What?! No way.:silly: Some of my baby canas can go to the loach bin though. I just got 150 more babies from the second clutch and I still have four more clutches waiting.:lipssealedsmilie: That's just in addition to about 70 babies from the first clutch.:banhim:

Rach, remember the baby cana pics I showed you? That's the female one I uploaded here. She has grown a lot.:D I adore her so much as she lets me touch her head and handfeed her.

Of course. My canas are my babies.:grinyes: They came from a clutch I got from a ditch. They're spoiled with plenty of foods I can find for them.:)

Good luck searching for them. They shouldn't be hard if you can find some in your local ditches.:grinyes:

Thanks, everyone! Iris, do you have updated pics of your canas and haustrums?:)

Well, I was cleaning up my snail tanks before Christmas Eve tonight when my sister decided to fool around with my snails. I had shouted myself hoarse from her troubles. Some canas ended up into my planted tank much to my frustration. I told her to do something constructive. She came out again with my camera and her own pink (:silly: ), Olympus. She took several pics of the snails. At least, that distracted her from playing around my snails too much. I challenged her for some close shots of baby snails and their eyes. Here they are.:lipssealedsmilie:

Aww, they're adorable!

Canas in the planted tanks stinks though. Ah well, not as bad as when I was 8 and my big sister murdered one of my fish by bludgeoning it with a marble.

She's only 14, Nancy. I warned her to check her arms before she handles my brigs because she handled my canas first. These baby canas are very sneaky. I had some ended up stuck on my arm for quite awhile without me noticing. I can distinguish them quickly though just from the color of their shells and lack of orange mottles on their faces.:)

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, everyone!

I love the purple color on the snails!

OK, my ignorance of snails and snailkind here. What are the purple ones? Are those canas? And canas eat plants, right?

In spite of my efforts to learn things through web searches, I keep finding I don't even know enough to know what to ask or what to search for. Every time I open a thread in the Invert Section, I have another question, or two, or three. I'm havin' a heck of a time associating pics with species, except for ramshorns and the Malayan turbo snails.

Hope ya'll don't think I'm a pain in the behind, but I'm serious about havin' a tank or two with inverts in 'em. Thanks for the patience.

hey, if you've got invert questions, the invert forums are the place to ask them! :D

I don't have any canas but as I understand it, canas don't come in purple, and they will go to town on plants. I suspect the purple ones are P. bridgesii (Mystery Snails).

And as a sidenote, MTS = Malaysian Trumpet Snail :)

The first post shows all of my Pomacea diffusa (new name for Pomacea bridgesii). The name has been updated by Ken Hayes as Donya pointed out in applesnail.net.

Canas don't come in different colors except gold and brown. They are indeed voracious plant eaters in comparison to Pomacea diffusa which prefer plants with soft foliage and dead or decaying parts of the plants. Canas are banned in several countries due to their voracious appetite for plants. They can care less whichever plant they want to eat.
