I'm new to planted tanks and invertebrates especially. When I picked up my 2 hardy cycling fish for my 10g I also picked a few plants for the tank. Apparently toating along on one of the plants was a little snail with a pointy-horn looking shell that is about a 1/4 inch long. I figured he might not make it through the ammonia cycle because I've heard invertebrates were very sensetive to ammonia spikes.

A little over a week later, I have about half a dozen little snails of various sizes, all under a 1/4 inch long, all over my tank. None of them have as pointy of a shell as the original one, so I'm not sure if they are from him.

My question is, should I be worried? Can there be a bad snail infestation? Are there any types of snails that would be bad for my tank? Or did I just get an accidental free algae cleanup crew? I just am worried that in a week I've got from 1 to 6... can it keep up at this rate? :help:

I'd get pictures but unfortunetly my cheapo digital camera doesn't get good zoom shots in the tank, they come out all fuzzy. :swear:

sounds to me like MTS .They are great clean up crew . I would say that they were hiding in the plants they do multiply fast but not that quick in a week.

Mts can get so out of hand, in fact any snail I found can. pond snails are really a pain to.

You can simply remove anything that you can see to control their population. Cut on feeding. They tend to proliferate quickly when food supply is abundant.

:iagree:

Worst thing to do is to use chemicals or get fish. Use a manual removal method (I find that baiting with veggies works best) or just control the population by cutting back on feedings.

K I'll start cutting back on feeding a bit, but what exactly is MTS? I'm a bit of a newb here...
