ps, the other inhabitants are....

5 aus rainbows
1 spotted pleco
1 hillstream loach
2 peppered corys
and the other angel (mated pair)

dont know if there might be a compatibility issue, i heard something once about angels and discus not being able to mix for some reason.......

If the tap water is between 6.5 and 7.0.. I wouldn't worry much about it (unless the fish was bred in waters very different from yours).

I'd be most worried about mistreatment by the mated angels, who will be doing whatever they can to drive away the angel fhat's not doing well...

Good luck,
Jim

If they are a mated pair, the female angel will often need to rest for a day or so after a spawning. Have you noticed any color changes in the female, or see any eggs?
good luck
:)

thanx people..

just to clarify, there are only the two angels that are a pair.. not a third one, guess my post was a little confusing. its the bigger of the two that is sick, i always assumed that he was the male, any ideas?? anyways, we didnt notice any eggs lately. they usually lay them on my undergravel fileter tubes. and they have done it 4 times or so and ive never seen either if them doing this. normally they are fanning water over them until they dissappear (i think the pleco gets them at night)... hmmm, dont know what else to do... thanks for your help and any mores ideas would be great..

Check the fish for any discoloration--could be a minor infection. Otherwise, as long as the tank is stable, and there aren't any obvious signs of disease, I wouldn't do anything. Any treatment would be a wild guess at best, and may cause problems. You can try providing a tempting treat outside of your normal feeding routine--live brine or blood worms, for example, to see if the fish reacts. Could just be a in a funk.

Cories are also well-known egg eaters--just a thought.

thanks orion girl. thats a good idea about feeding him a treat. i will go to the LFS tomorrow and try it. i didnt realize that about the cories. one of these times i will get a little 10 gallon breeder tank to try and raise the young...

thanks again

Well, I'll say it again. A specific pH is not an issue. A steady pH is. 6.5 is perfectly fine. It's usually not worth it to worry about pH being a problem unless it is fluctuating wildly. Chances are, the fish you have were purchased in or around your home town, and is probably fed off the same water source as you. Think of pH like humidity to us. At first, a humidity of 90% would be a great shock from that of 10%. But you'd get used to it. It would be really annoying if it fluctuated from 10 to 90 to 50 every day.

Also, since no one asked, what are your other water parameters? Such as nitrate? Or temperature? And, obviously, you don't see any tears in the fins do you? Tears in angelfish fins can be a big deal.

You may want to add some melafix.. Its a good soothing, natural, mildly antibacterial solution and can help soothe the fish when a specific problem isn't known. You may also want to add some stresscoat.
