Soo.. I am gettin tired of battling the hair algae in my tank. I ordered a drop checker for my tank over a month ago, and like the first one I ordered this one is MIA. I understand that once I get a better balance algae will start to decline, but I want to see if I can't help it to its end a bit faster. Will a 5% bleach solution work for my moss(pretty much the only thing the algae is infesting) or will this kill my Java Moss?

umm do you happen to have any shrimp tanks? i like throwing my moss with algae on it into my shrimp tank which they love :D

btw. i dont think you should bleach it, wont that kill the plant also?

No shrimp ATM, but I suppose I could buy a grip of cherry shrimp or something for cheap and throw them in there..

a diluted solution of bleach isn't supposed to kill plants if they are only soaked for a short period of time. I just don't know if moss would be affected

Can you try a soaking in carbonated water or club soda? The action of the bubbles may loosen or even get rid of the algae. I don't know if it will work-but no harm in trying it.

I've used a peroxide dip on other plants (hygro, java fern, weeping moss) without damaging them, although it was BBA and staghorn, not hair. Might be worth a shot after a little more research.
