Anyone here keeping FW Gobies or similar type fish? I'd like to find more info and pictures of the different species available. Any links you have that you find useful would be great. Any sites you know of that sell them? Pics of yours & personal experience would be great as well!
(not dragon gobies & not bumblebees)
Thanks in advance!

Does it need to be gobies specifically? If you are interested in goby-like fishes, there are eleotrids like the fat sleepers (Dormitator species), Ecuadoran water cow (Eleotris picta) and the numerous Australian gudgeons; these are engaging fish and many of the gudgeons are quite pretty. I believe the Eleotridae is closely related to Gobiidae.
There are also the beautiful and diverse North American darters (Percidae). These are rather goby-like in appearance and behavior.
Buffalo darter (Etheostoma bison):

I soooo wish I had room for gudgeons. A darter tank would be awesome as well...

SO pretty! Really unusual and interesting fish! I hope we'll see these become more common in the hobby in the future. I have a LFS that is usually pretty good about ordering in whatever people ask for, so I'll have to ask him to look into some of these.
Mgamer, that one of yours is stunning!

20 long plus powerhead = darter tank. C'mon, man!
Those are some gorgeous fish in those links, Inka. Man, I need to set up an Aussie or New Guinea biotope.

I have to second the peacock goby. I have a female (picture here (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174618), 4th and 6th pics) in my 20 long community, and she is awesome! Very pretty, gets along with everyone, and lots of personality.

Looks like Stiphodon atropurpureus.
Desert Gobies can also be quite attractive, especially dominant males.
Gudgeons are closely related to gobies, but they lack the fused pelvic fins.

Here is a Morgunda morgunda that I used to own. It was about 6.5" if I recall correctly.

I actually found that you can purchase some of them at Frank's Aquarium (http://www.franksaquarium.com/).

I would love to keep (US) native darters! Some are really stunning looking. But I understand they want cool/cold water. How do I keep that without the BIG bucks for a chiller?

...don't get a heater?
Seriously though, where do you live?
If you keep them in a large enough tank, you don't really need to worry about a heater or a chiller. Coldwater species can often adapt to slightly warmer conditions (i.e, my freakin' white clouds) and as long as the temperature is consistent, they should be fine.
ALSO: does anyone know of a site where you can find fish species native to each state, or hopefully, native to a certain part of a state? I found these REALLY AWESOME little goby-like fish in a large puddle that was leftover from flooding. It was in Riverside, IL. There were also little crayfish in there too... I've beed dying to find out what kind of fish it was!

Yeah, they don't really need a chiller - temperatures in the mid 70's are good.

Basement tanks with strong circulation are good setups for native darters.
