Hello everyone - I recently picked up a used aquarium setup for a decent price... I use to have a 40gallon setup a few years ago, and lost most of my stock due to complications when I moved. I'm looking to get back into the hobby now (don't expect any moving for quite some time) and managed to find a decent used setup.
Details are below:
90 gallon acrylic tank
Skimmer - Top Fathom TF100A
Return Pump - Little Giant 2-MDQ-SC
Rio 1700, qty 2
Rio 1100, qty 2
Rio 14HI, qty 1
Rio 2100, qty 1
2x55 watt Realux with ballast, qty 3
SMS 120 pH Meter, Milwaukee
Oak Stand and Canopy
Sump
Via Aqua Titanium Heater w/ controller, qty 2
I purchased all of this for $300, the bulk of it is in great condition. I don't have any pictures to share at this point in time but may eventually post them as I start setting things up. This setup has sat in the previous owners garage for over 1 yr, but its in great shape aside from a little cleaning.
I have a couple questions...
1 - what do you think? Anything listed seem like a bad idea? (ie, skimmer good or bad?)
2 - I'm trying to look around for plumbing ideas and tips.. can you point me to any good resources? The previous owner had a ton of little Rio pumps... I would like to set this tank up with very few pumps inside the tank if possible. I know the Little Giant pump doesn't flow enough to keep any corals so i'll have to get a different pump, or maybe setup a closed loop with some additional pumps... not sure yet.
3 - any sump recommendations? I don't like the sump it came with as I don't think I can set it up the way I want with a refugium but not 100% sure yet.
4 - I'm planning on making my own rock with platforms, arches, caves, etc. Besides letting the rocks cure for long enough before putting into the main tank, any other tips I should know for starting the saltwater cycle?
Thanks for the help, looking forward to get back into this hobby...
