i planted some java moss in my 40 gallon planted tank about a werk or two ago.. this 40gallon gets a daily dose of co2 right now.. and 60 watts of light pumped in... how long will it take to root itself to the ground? then spread?

it needs to attach itself on driftwood or rockwork

not always. i have some pea gravel and had it attach to some of the small rocks. it just depends on many factors. i have used it in many tanks as foreground.

it will grow and sooner or later it will attach to some of the substrate.

I use it as a ground cover in one of my 10's and it floated and floated until I laid some clear marbles on top of it now it is firmly attached to the substrate. You may want to give that a try:)

Interesting, I never knew it would grow as a cover.

It has to be done right to look OK. Mine however is about 3 inches thick in the bottom of a 10 and just provides many hiding spots for my bettas:)

Most of the times for me, java moss "roots down" in about 2-3 weeks and is held tight in about 2 months.
