Just a quick question. I am installing aquarium heater for the first time. It is Marineland stealth. It says in the instructions that it shouldn't touch any aquarium decor. Can it touch plants? It is very heavily planted aquarium, plants are everywhere.

TIA

Any heater that touches anything in the tank can cause heater burn, since it's an encased heater element. That being said water circulation around plants and movement may lessen the burn chances. If concerned you can get a heater guard to put around the lower heater case.

yea, plants have temperature needs the same as fish. Putting a heater on one will certainly do damage. The best place to put a heater is in an area with good circulation so as to dissperse the heat most efficiently.

Even though I tend to place my heaters horizontally along the bottoms of my tanks, my plants generally fail to heed the advice about not touching the heaters. Despite this, I've seen little to indicate that they have suffered any burns. I think the trick to that is having them in a place where there's some flow.

:iagree:
I place my heaters vertically though so that I can be sure there are no fish trapped by them. Had a cory trap himself once. My plants also fail to heed the advice about not touching heaters....especially the tall crypts that I tend to keep in the back corners of my tanks. I've never seen any burns on the leaves either.

my amazon sword has actually wrapped itself around my stealth. if anything, it has started growing even faster since i turned the heater back on for winter...
