Well, I have finally had a successfull mouthbrood with a P.Socolofi-I can see the free swimming fry now(even though it's in my community tank). I'm not going to remove the holding female, and I don't know what to feed the fry(if the other's chow on the fry,it won't bother me, but I want to be able to feed the survivors). I've feed con fry frozen baby brine shrimp, but I didn't think the high protein would ok for the AC's. Any help would be appreciated.:thm:

Here's a pic of the holding female and friends...

I feed my fish New Life Spectrum Optimum H2O flakes, and I crumble some of the flakes finer so the fry can eat them better. Right now I have Ice Blue zebra, yellow lab, and peacock babies with blue ahli babies on the way. They all seem to thrive on the H2O flakes.

I just made sure that I crushed up the flake food when my demasoni fry were in the main tank. They seemed to scope out places where they would get some and not get eaten. Between that and the algae they seemed to do fine.

Congrats on the fry!! It is nice to see the ACs are doing so well for you! It makes me so happy to know that taking the chance shipping them (I was scared to death I would do it wrong and they would die) worked out so well.

All the mbuna fry which were born in my main display tanks (and managed to avoid ending up as a snack and became full-fledged tank members) weren't specifically fed and survived off of scraps and food fragments they were able to snag. Surprisingly their growth rates paralleled that of the fry I was simultaneously rearing in grow out tanks (being fed 2-3 daily, while the main tanks were nowhere near being fed that frequently).

agreed with kay-bee also i dont target feed my fry in an established african cichlid tank they will find small bits of foods and fare better than most fish do, when i feed sinking shrimp pellets and when my fish or syno's tear into the pellets the crumbles start to fly and the fry will get there nourishment a little harsh i believe but i have never had an issue with fry raising with grown cichlids cruising around and special target feeding, if you feel compelled than yes an occasional live / frozen baby brine dinner wouldnt hurt just dont make it the staple add crushed pulverized flakes of cichlid and spirulina to their diet and all should be good, later my friend and congrats on the fry aye, good job..

You can feed them crushed flakes. If you really want the babies to survive put the holding mother in a different tank by herself. Congrats on the spawn.
