Got a couple of GBRs this weekend .

Well, the day after I purchased them, as I was going to feed them some flake food, I noticed them picking on some snails in the tank. These were just ordinary pond snails. When I watched more carefully, they were actually "slurping" the snails from their shells. They ended up taking care of the snails in the tank, leaving behind empty shells. After seeing that, I skipped that feeding.

My question is, are snails okay as a food source for GBRs? I have quite a few pond snails in my other tanks (shrimp tanks) that I can offer my GBRs every once in a while. Of course I would only feed them the larger snails, where I know the GBRs wouldn't swallow the shells. :evil_lol:

Yeah, snails are great food for cichlids. I wish my rams ate snails, I have a huge overabundance of pond snails in my 55.

Thanks sploke. Now I have a reason to let the pond snails live in my other tanks, for awhile...
