Okay, I have a bala shark in my larger community tank and he has been doing well. All of a sudden he got a red spot on his back and bottom fins. And he was swimming vertical. I moved him into my 10 gallon until I can figure out what is wrong with him. He's normally in a 40 gallon long. My bala is only 1.5 inches long. I have looked at the disesases for bala sharks but nothing like this stands out to me. Anybody have any idea's? Right now in my 10 gal, he's in with a betta and 5 baby danio's. I'd like to figure out what is wrong with him so I can put him back in the big tank.

Bala's are well known for startling easily and running into tank decorations or sides in a panic. Any chance those spots are sores resulting from slamming into something?

Do you have plans for the adult size of this fish?

Yes, we are planning to have a 110 gallon with in a few months. So that should be able to handle him and the rest of our community well. I honestly can't say that he hasn't slammed into anything. I haven't actually seen him. so it could be possible. Given that is what it is, how long do they normally take to heal. Am I okay to put him back in the community?

Here is a picture of my poor bala. Does this look familiar to anybody?
