What kind of plant? How much light? CO2?
More info is needed. Pictures? A better description of the "dark black something"? What is the lighting, fertz, maintenance, stock and plants in the tank? Can you google for a pic similar to what's going on? Is it black brush algae?

I agree that we need to know the lighting, how much of it, and what kind of plants are they.

tank info... pics are there..
daily doses of seachem excel ... every other day seachem plant supplements... and 60 watts of light pumped into AQ for about 10 hours a day
