I would say likely a 55 gallon since they measure 48x13x21. Hard to know how well calibrated his eyeballs might be.

I know..... well, with all the research he "did", I guess he thought a ruler mighta been too archaic

At best, $1 - $1.50 per gallon for the tank...

the bigger the tank, the more per gallon...

$2 - $2.50 a gallon with stand/equipment...

What they think is a great deal isn't necessarily mine..more will come along..be patient..

:iagree: Be patient they will come. I got a 75gal with wood stand, lights and hood for less than $150. You could also check out freecycle.org You will be surprised how many people just want to give you their tanks. I have 2 tanks (1 tank, stand, hood & lights) so far that I got for free. Good luck, DD.

I love freecycle, but the mod still hasn't approved my wanted ad for tanks and parts :-(

Glad it has a pic, because it would be very bland without it! (LOL)

I guess it depends on your local group. I have placed a wanted add for tanks and that's when I got my 29 gal full setup including stand for free...:thm:

I saw a 150 with real wood stand and nice filters and everything get sold for $20.... there is no typo I meant $20. But alas, I have NO room for a tank that big.

You know, I tried to search freecycle and found it a little difficult to use.... not sure what the problem was but after messing with it for an hour or so, I gave it up after much frustration... I wish I had the patience to work it out, maybe I will check back again, I guess I am spoiled by the simplicity of craigslist... I also have a heck of a time dealing with facebook after playing with myspace for so long LOL.....

thanks for the good words Dawg, you make me have hope for it, leaning me to giving it another chance :)

I'm gone a while and you guys are paying outrageous prices on Craigslist. What happened to all my good advice? LOL. All kidding aside, I don't pay more than $1 a gallon ever and most of the time it's 75 cents a gallon.

I just picked up a 40 gal long for $25. Some of you might remember the 210 that I got for $100. Just one of the Eheim pumps it had was worth that. There were 3 and it had an xP3 canister, as well as, a huge UV sterilizer and a bunch of other stuff.

I've gotten a 135 and 65 for free and turned around and sold the 65 and mesh top for $65 to a girl for her bearded dragon.

I bought a 55 gallon reef ready Oceanic tank, stand, and canopy, MDSC3 pump, wet/dry, Aquaclear 110, and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember for $80. I turned around and sold the stand and canopy for $100.

Don't pay ridiculous prices. The stuff is used and the person getting rid of it is getting out of the hobby and most of the time just wants the stuff out of the way. Most of the time I'll counter offer once I'm there and see what comes with it.

I have paid $100 for a 90 gallon setup because of what came with it. I've done the same with a 75 gallon setup. I only do this IF the gear that comes with the tank is worth at least what I'm paying. I always exclude the tank from that price when it comes to extras.

I can go on and on listing deals I've gotten by being patient, passing up stuff priced more than $1 per gallon, and counter offering (sometimes ahead of time if it's something I really want). An example of the latter was a 90 gallon that a guy had for $150 and I offered and got for $90.

On craigslist, I search for aquarium, fish, and tank on both the for sale and free listings.

Freecycle is NOT the place to request free gear. It's actually against the rules of freecycle to request anything if you read the fine print.

Post an ad on Craigslist.

Wanted: Cheap or Free Aquariums and/or Accessories

Looking for those aquariums that are collecting dust and taking up space in your garage or shed. I'll consider cracked or leakers, but prefer those that don't have those problems. Your eye sore is my treasure. Thanks for reading.

That's all you need to put. The simpler the better. That's how I've gotten many tanks including the 210 gallon deal of the century. The couple had bought a new house that had the tank in it and they just wanted someone to come get it and enough for it to go out for a nice dinner ($100).

You'll probably hate me DD, but I picked up a 75 gallon Oceanic tank and stand with gravel, heater, glass tops, and two Whisper 20-40 filters today for free. On my way home, I saw some workers putting the tank out for the trash. I turned around, asked if they were throwing it out, and got the guy to help me load it all in my truck. This wasn't off of Craigslist, but another way of getting tanks being in the right place at the right time.
