I had to share this pic.. some on MFK have probably seen it. I took the pic because he lost all but one of his teeth, they just now started growing back but he looked so pitiful in this pic :D

BTW.. it's my Red Wolf Fish - Erythrinus erythrinus

Ha ha.. nice.

He has one tooth coming in right next to the one in the pic. I imagine it's going to take a while for them all to come back.

It's a good thing I don't feed him any live food or they would be able to slip out :D

Reminds me of the toothless 'bumble from "Rudolph"...does he bounce?

Nice pic!

Some fish lose teeth and grow back bigger sets. He has one tooth poking through. I imagine it will be months before he gets his full mouth of teeth back.

What do you usually feed him? We've got the same species (looks the same anyways), and I'm hoping he doesn't get all gangly-toothed as well... Lol.

His usual diet is: Staple of Hikari Carnivore pellets every morning. At night he will get either krill, market shrimp, tilapia, night crawlers and on a rare occasion beefheart for a treat.

Every blue moon he'll get an accidental feeder. I had the tank divided with an 3" RTCxTSN hybrid growing out, the catfish got through the divider and managed to end up in the red wolves belly :( This has happened on a few occasions.

Have a pic of yours? I'll tell you if they are the same species.

:headshake2: Whoa!! Beef heart is pretty tough meat for an old man with no dentures, hehe. Must have pretty tough gums.:)

Mudfrog
12-18-2008, 7:40 AM
Nah, the beefheart is the prepackaged stuff and it usually breaks up really easily. He only gets it around once a month as a treat anyway.

so what do they do in the wild for food when their teeth fall out?

Mudfrog

I've often wondered this myself.. I imagine if the fish is small enough they can still take it down by clamping down on it.
