 Hello !!!

Yes..i'm relatively bored this saturday morning..actually I was doing a tank cleaning at 1 a.m. this morning and was looking for aquarium info on various things and came across this forum and thought i would join..I've had aquariums since i was 18 (21 yrs.) so i've been through all kinds of frustrations and blunders with them. I currently have 3 tanks..55, 40 and a 30 gallon..Sometime in the future i plan on moving the 55 gallon set up to a new location in the house and want to switch to a sand substrate (freshwater aq.) and convert from my ancient common hood/lighting to an LED lighting system soooo....my discussion today is any tips on the LED lighting would be greatly appreciated..ex...where to buy the cheapest LED's..I'm wondering if i could jet on over to my local Lowes store and rig up some kind of lighting from there..possibly make a new hood from plexy glass ..or if anyone knows where to buy a clear flat topper for aquariums??... if not..how do you cut plexy glass..maybe acrylic sheeting would be better..where to buy acrylic? so many questions!!!!!!!! ..i wish i wasnt such a "do it yourselfer"...uuuugh...help meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :help: ...................T.

I get glass cut at local glass shops or use acrylic sheeting. Sometimes you can find it at hardware stores, but there are usually acrylic warehouses/stores in cities. Often they will have scraps priced by the pound. Be cautious of sitting lights on top of the plastic. I hope you enjoy the forums! I would post your questions in the freshwater DIY forums for more answers. There was recently a few threads about LED lighting so I am sure some members can give you more advice there. I would think LEDs and acrylic would be fine together. It has become common practice to light sign letters with LEDs and they all have acrylic faces. (I grew up in the sign industry )

Welcome to the forums, btw! :)

Here is an LED supplier, if your find yourself feeling completely DIY

http://www.superbrightleds.com/index.htm

They sell strips of LEDs as well as timers and dimmers, etc.
