I have had my porcupine puffer for about 1.5 weeks now. The first 2 days where ok, he ate the frozen food and swam all over the place and he rested on the LR once and awhile. Now all he does is chase the food, put it in his mouth and spit it out put it in his mouth again and spit it out again, I haven't once seen him keep the food in his mouthin the last week.

The majority of his days are spent swimming staring at the glass on on all 4 sides of my tank going up and down but he prefers one side more then the others.... He rarely goes to the bottom he mostly stays on the top half of the tank.

He is only 1.5 inches in length. His tank mates are a 1 inch damsel and a 3 inch yellow tang. I never see any agression towards any one and there is no fins that are nipped either.

I really want this guy to start eating. I am getting worried.

Thanks

I bought some ghost shrimp and guppies today. Puffy had no problems eating those up.

most likely the puffer is wild caught and it has no idea what frozen foods are. because he ate them the first couple days could be because it was starving. It may take time to ween him onto frozens, I know this is very common with Lionfish.

Also what size tank is it in? Are the other fish acting overly agressive towards it? Perhaps it is getting beaten on by the damsel or tang and it doesn't feel like eating because it's stressed.

Guy-this is the 55 with the mysterious deaths. Anyway, guppies are not a good thing to feed saltwater fish. If you look in the newbie section on this site there was a question recently regarding feeding guppies to saltwater fish. Check that out on why not to. Just work with the ghosts for now and incorporate the frozen with the ghosts. You will also need to feed the Ghost Shrimps some nutritious frozen food (like frozen Formula One) 15 mins before you feed the puffer. Ghosts are not nutritious as they are. Anyway, hope this helps.

The guppies and shrimp where given to me as I was worried about my puffer not eating. Thanks for the heads up on why the guppies are not good for my tank and the feeding tip for the Shrimp. Formula 1? what exactly is this I haven't seen the stuff in the LFS.

Today I tried very hard and the finally ate some frozen Krill out of my hand. :) Is this a good enough died or does he require more in his died?
