View Full Version : Is physical degeneration possible as the fish get older?

I have one poor Neon fish that looks like an old man.
The belly is depressed and she usually swims on her own.

I thought about illness, but really I didn't discover anything. No wounds, bad fins, spots or anything like that and she eats normally, though she swims slower than her mates.
She is about 1.5 to 2 years old. Can it be the age got her? Is that possible in the fish world? Is she too old or not?

Neons in capitivity can live 6-10 years, so It is not likely to be old age.

Mycobacterial infections give symptoms that look like premature old age. Not treatable. Euthanasia.

Thanks for answers. But sorry no - I won't euthanase any of my fish. I'm not against it, I just can't do it. Besides it swims happily with others.. I'm not even sure if something is really wrong, no way I would do that.
